Aug 04, Mililani rated it it was ok. Save yourself the time and don’t bother.

Again, a great mix of historical novel, family matters, romance and secrets from the philosophical to the ethical. The points that anoyed me with this book where the following: And they do, with revelations beginning to come hard and fast around the halfway point in the story, but the revelations in question are mostly about Ariel’s family history and the connection to Jesus’ life mostly falls flat.

Plus the whole convoluted family inbreeding situation that unraveled over the course of the story was disturbing. The Magic Circle by Katherine Neville. I slogged through thinking things would somehow tie together at the end, but all I was left with was a thrown together “conclusion” that was completely unsatisfying.

Aug 05, Kelly rated it it was ok. Quite a rollercoaster of a read! However, there’s such an abundance of history here lengthy backstory starring Jesus and an odd side “The Magic Circle” is an ambitious novel, and for that I commend Ms.

I seriously needed a timeline and a family tree.

This book is the Platonic form of bad. This is convoluted and I wanted a flow chart.

One of the most tiring books I have ever read. I should have put it down when she mentioned a character’s “mane of golden hair” on the first page, but I soldiered on.

Shampoo bottles posess better prose.

I only wish that it had done a better job of it. Neville creates a mess with Ariel’s family. I can read just about anything, but I could NOT get into this book. Neville creates a confusing web of factoids that are both annoying and almost impossible to follow.

This book was just too convoluted to be believed. So many hours lost.

Secret history, runes, linguistic patterns, mystery cults and Near Eastern mysticism all take a part, as do the Second Crusade, Native American culture and Matherine obsession with the occult and objects of power. Finally remembered the name of this book I read many years ago! When her cousin is slain by an unknown assassin, Ariel Behn becomes the sole heir to a family legacy: If you like multigenerational family melo dramas, it might be your thing, but for me, this just fell a little flat.

This long mass of expository family history and Ariel’s investigation into the same takes up the lion’s share of the last two-thirds of the book.

El Circulo Magico (English, Spanish, Paperback)

As the heir to a family legacy – a cache of manuscripts that contain not only the source of political power, but also to the source of all energy – Ariel races across continents to reveal the dark secrets in her family’s past, thus she begins to uncover the chilling truth of the coming millennium. The structure of the book is very odd and feels slightly amateurish.

Very interesting to note that it was set in and published in Yet the prejudices and politics and attempts to find “Atlantis” are so very timely. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account.
